My name is Lawanda Davis and I am a true lefty. I started my craft journey when I was just 7 years old making those potholders in the frame. Then when I was 16 years old, out of necessity, I asked a friend to teach me to sew in exchange for being her errand girl. My problem was that since I was about 11 ye ars old, I was 5'7" tall and we won't even talk about how awfully thin I was.
So there I was deep into my sewing obsession which lasted until my daughter was born some 9 years later, never to fully arise again due to health problems. Through the years though, I widened my love of crafts by cross-stitching to relieve stress. Now we reach the point where I turned my attention to crocheting. When my health took a turn for the worse and I found myself home all the time, I began to watch Knit and Crochet Today. After about three episodes I was convinced that I could do it. Through exhaustive search I found a book for leftys and began my struggle to understand the writing and drawings that were so foreign to me. I finally caught on and I haven't stopped yet. For one reason, I love it and it does wonders for my arthritis.
My drive to learn to knit came when someone said that most people don't knit and crochet equally. I took that as a personal challenge that I would not only learn how to knit, I would do it left handed. That I did with much frustration. After throwing away my needles, buying different ones, and getting a book I got it. I must say that crocheting is my true love but I continue to drive myself to go deeper into knitting because the end product just looks too good for me to pass up.
This site was created for all you leftys that just wanted an official place to meet and exchange ideas. Feel free to share your story with us in my Blog. Just remember to keep the stories positive, encouraging, and inspiring so that when any lefty newby stops by they will just have to give knitting or crocheting a try.
